This morning, I taught my 7-year-old son how to vacuum the floor. He did a really good job. It took me at least three times as long as it would have if I had just vacuumed the house myself.

In my estimation, I will need to supervise him vacuum two or three more times. After that, I am pretty sure he would be able to reliably vacuum without supervision. He is a pretty smart learner.

I will invest a little bit of time upfront to train him, but for at least the next 11 years until he is 18 years and moves out, he will vacuum for me. More important than that, I am teaching my son an important life skill, cleanliness.

Delegation at work is the same way. It takes more time initially but saves time later.
