We are always communicating. Communication is one of the most essential skills we need as humans. This skill is even more crucial if we want to become effective leaders. Below, I share with you six keys to effective communication.

Who – The Person. Your character is crucial to effective communication. Communication is not merely talking. You have to connect and influence people with your words. Communication is measured in terms of impact. You’ll never be able to have time to think through every word. Most of the time, you will speak spontaneously. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. To be effective, you have to have great character that expresses itself in words that touch people’s lives. Have you ever seen a situation where two people say essentially the same thing but one is believed and the other accused of lying? It’s often because of character. Character not only determines what you say, it also makes people trust you and receive what you have to say or not.

What –  The Content. What you say is important. Content is King.

Where – The Place. Where you say it is important. 

When – The Time. There is a right and wrong time to say something. In communication, timing is everything.

Why – The Motive. Motive is crucial. Without a good motive, nothing good is truly good. Purpose is essential for effective communication.

How – Its not just what you say, it’s how you say it.
